Before Your First Run

Top Tips for New Players

The most important things to know before building your first factory.

Keep Allergen Lines Separate

Nuts and dairy must not cross paths with allergen-free dishes. Use sorters from the start to prevent cross-contamination.

Watch Expiration Timers

Dough gradually ferments, meat can spoil, and dairy curdles. Always check timers on your production lines and plan accordingly.

Start Simple, Scale Later

Don’t overcomplicate your first production lines. A simple mixer → oven → conveyor works for early recipes. Add complexity as needed.

Use Sorters Strategically

Sorters are your most important tool. They prevent wrong ingredients from entering machines and keep allergen lines isolated.

Plan Your Factory Layout

Before starting a level, sketch out where each machine goes. Space is limited and bad layouts cause bottlenecks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Snacktorio?
Snacktorio (异食工厂) is a factory-cooking automation game where you build and scale food production lines to feed the beasts threatening to consume your world. You manage ingredients with real-world cooking rules — dairy curdles with heat, nuts spread allergens, meat can cause food poisoning — while designing increasingly complex automated kitchens across 6 islands and 55+ levels.
Is Snacktorio on Steam?
Yes, Snacktorio is available on Steam for $7.99. It supports Windows, macOS, and Linux, and is Steam Deck verified. You can also try the free demo 'Snacktorio: Apéritif' before buying — and your demo progress carries over to the full game!
How many islands and levels are in Snacktorio?
Snacktorio has 6 islands across 3 worlds, with 55+ levels total. There's also a Training Factory (Tutorial World) with 6 training levels (T-1 to T-B1). Each island introduces new core ingredients, mechanics, and dangers.
What are Imps and how do I get more?
Imps are small, helpful NPC creatures that assist with factory tasks. You can breed new Imps using a special recipe: combine Green Imp Mushroom + Salt + Water in a Fermenter. Green Imp Mushrooms can be found in caves — check the bottom-right cave in W1-1 for an early source.
Why does my Chefomatic keep jamming?
The Chefomatic (dish assembler) will jam if it receives an extra ingredient that the current recipe doesn't need — even if all required ingredients are present. Always check the recipe book. Also, if the recipe doesn't use a sauce or liquid, the liquid slot must be empty. Example: Huevos Rancheros and Fangchi Chao Dan don't use any liquid.
How do I handle allergens in Snacktorio?
Allergens (like nuts) can spread through your production lines via shared conveyor belts and machines. Use Sorters to keep allergen-containing and allergen-free lines completely separate. Never let allergen ingredients share a belt or machine with allergen-free dishes.
What are Witchelin Stars in Snacktorio?
Witchelin Stars are secret collectibles hidden throughout the game's levels. There are 86 total Witchelin Stars. Some are earned by completing orders (Beast orders). Hidden exploration stars require platforming, building scaffolding/ladders, and finding secret cave passages. After T-B1, you'll see 7/86 stars — showing how much more content awaits.
How do I figure out production ratios?
Hover over a running machine and hold Shift — the tooltip shows production rates in orange text. Key ratio: 1 Miner outputs 1 item per 5 seconds, 1 coal burns for 10 seconds, so 1 Miner can support 2 Furnaces. Liquids also show flow rates in the tooltip.
What is the Z0U5-CH3F AI assistant?
Z0U5-CH3F is your in-game AI cooking assistant. Enter World 1 to unlock it — then talk to it directly or click the icon in the top-right corner. It can tell you how to make any recipe ingredient, show you recipe requirements, and give hints on production challenges.
Does Snacktorio have mod support?
Yes! Snacktorio supports Steam Workshop for both custom levels and function mods. The developer ellraiser has published example levels ('Not The Bees!', 'Undefined Behaviour') and an example function mod to help the community. A full 'Creating Custom Content' guide is available on Steam.
Is Snacktorio similar to Factorio or Satisfactory?
Snacktorio shares the automation factory DNA but with a cooking twist and key differences. It's more level/puzzle-structured than the open-world approach of Factorio. 'More like a puzzle game than infinite factory' per community — each level is a unique problem to solve. From the same dev as APICO and Mudborne.
My player character is stuck — how do I reset?
Hold Enter for 5 seconds to force-respawn back to the level start. On controller, hold L2+R2. This is confirmed in the official FAQ from developer ellraiser.
Does the game have controller support and Steam Deck?
Yes — Snacktorio has full controller support (Xbox, PlayStation) and is Steam Deck Verified. The game also supports control remapping so you can customize key bindings. Many players remap the hotbar keys from 7-8-9-0 to Z-X-C-V for better ergonomics.
Is there multiplayer in Snacktorio?
No — Snacktorio is single-player only. There is no multiplayer or local co-op mode. Some players have requested co-op in Steam Discussions, but the developer has not announced any plans for it.
What are the system requirements for Snacktorio?
Minimum: Windows 10+, Intel Core i5 (4th Gen), 4 GB RAM, Intel HD Integrated graphics, 250 MB storage. The game runs on the LÖVE 12 engine and is very lightweight. Try the free demo 'Snacktorio: Apéritif' first to verify performance.
